Everyone talks about the opportunity. Nobody talks about the cost.
Behind the Screen is not a success story. It is the truth behind the work from home life many Filipinos step into without a map. It follows the reality behind the income screenshots and flexible schedules: unstable clients, night shift exhaustion, low pricing, family pressure, and building without a safety net.
Written from real experience, this book is for Filipino virtual assistants who are tired of surviving and ready to build something that lasts.

The reality behind remote work
Freelancing can create opportunity, but it also demands discipline, boundaries, resilience, and standards. These are the moments the income screenshots leave out.

Serving clients across time zones while the neighborhood sleeps.

Communication, preparation, and boundaries shape every working relationship.

When work ends at dawn, success can look very different from the outside.

About Ron Rabe
In 2018, Ron Rabe passed his teaching licensure and moved to Cagayan de Oro City with no contacts, no clear plan, and a degree that did not match the jobs available. He sent resumes and went to interviews, hearing the same message in different forms: you do not fit what we need.
Then one phone call introduced him to a role he had never heard of. He said yes because he needed a job. When COVID arrived, the company he worked for filed for bankruptcy. One day there was work. The next, there was none. He began finding his own clients, not because he was confident, but because he had no other choice.
He worked through the night while his neighborhood slept. He lay awake at five in the morning, the sky already bright, his mind still running. He learned what insomnia does to the body and what sustained pressure actually costs. He later joined Filipino VA communities online and began to recognize his own story in hundreds of others.
Behind the Screen is what he found when he stopped chasing income and started searching for understanding.
